Crooked teeth have been around for the entire existence of mankind. Archeologists have found crooked teeth in humans over 50,000 years old. Egyptians were some of the first noted people who were found with a use of their own kind of braces; a crude metal band that was wrapped around their teeth in order to enhance their smile. Another form that was in use was simply pushing their teeth into the proper place as they grew in.

A form of headgear has been created, exerting gentle pressure on the teeth in order to put them in their proper position. There has also been literature published about orthodontics in this time, where it is thoroughly outlined in its practice.
